I'm Glad You're Still Around

I'm Glad You're Still Around

“For the last 7 years I’ve been playing music in hospitals and nursing homes around Dallas. I’m frequently reminded that life is a fragile miracle and that nothing is guaranteed. Most mornings I find myself praying, “Thank you, God, for another breath, another day.”

Regularly spending time with folks who are at the end of life and folks who are facing health concerns has reminded me to be grateful for those relationships in my life that have stood the test of time – those that have changed, those that have almost been lost.

Each verse of I’m Glad You’re Still Around is a look into a different relationship. Perhaps your story is in there somewhere too. I hope this song reminds you that every fragile connection is a gift.” (Paul Demer)

Verse 1
Bm G
The first two months were just a feeling
D A
An IV dripping in the vein
Bm G
When all the joy was so untainted
D A
Like Eden, pure before the pain
Em D Asus A
But we pulled back the curtain
Em D A
And fought to make it through
Em D Asus A
Found that love was worth it
G A
And finally told the truth

Chorus
G
I’m glad you’re still
A
I’m glad you’re still
F#m G
I’m glad you’re still around
G
I’m glad you’re still
A
I’m glad you’re still
F#m G
I’m glad you’re still around
A
Still around

Verse 2
I did the laundry in the ninth grade
Our home was quiet with you gone
You fought the chemicals inside you
Like darkness just before the dawn
We wondered if we’d lost you
Your eyes had lost their glow
But miracles still come true
And I hope you’ll always know

Verse 3
You aren’t the one I was afraid of
The distance I could never reach
So scared of messing up my chances
I hid the love you gave to me
But grace ain’t on condition
And God ain’t up the hill
He’s closer than a vision
Like prophecy fulfilled
